Rotary Minutes – 08/04/14

 

Joan Loew called the meeting to order.

Todd Bradley introduced Kyla Peak, who is an U of I student who is shadowing at Performance Rehab.

Joan thanked the members present who helped with the Husky Pride Clean Up day.

Membership cards were handed out for members to use as invites for potential new members.

A board meeting will be held after the Aug. 11th meeting.

 

Gene Fuelling was presented a Paul Harris Pin for multiple donations to the foundation.

 

Rotary students will begin once school starts. We will be inviting all seniors to sign up to attend a meeting, which will allow for more students to have the opportunity to be a student Rotarian. We have had 2 students per month for the school year in the past and are going to try this new method to see how it works. Two students will be scheduled for each Monday meeting.

Aug. 4 – Steve & Nancy Westerberg – 35 years

Aug. 5 – Deb Weigel – 1 year membership

Happy Bucks were presented by Joan Loew, Sandie Graf and Bruce Bearinger.

Drawing was held with a $10.50 carry over for a total of $19.50. Deb Howard was the winner.

Fines included Jon King for Picture in paper, Todd Bradley for saying Rotary club is made up of “businessmen” and for all those who did not participate in Husky clean up day.

 

Gene Fuelling introduced Rotary member, Bruce Bearinger, as the speaker. He briefly spoke on Government programs such as the Nutrient Management, Water Quality and Conservation and agricultural programs. He also talked about Iowa being required to have a balanced budget and the Road use Tax Fund.

Bruce also spoke on being the newly appointed Economic Development Director who will replace Sally Falb in September after her retirement. He explained how his government position will work hand in hand with the local position and benefit Oelwein.

 

Next meeting will be Monday, Aug. 11th at Noon at Luigi’s.
