·         President Dean Schlitter opened the meeting at Luigi’s.

·         No student Rotarian’s were in attendance due to no school.

·         Birthday’s: Feb. 23rd – Lyle Miller & Laura Sires

·         Visitors present were Foreign Exchange Student, Florian. He told us about attending the District Rotary gathering for foreign exchange students in Dubuque last weekend. Sun Down skiing was done on Sunday.

·         Announcements:

Educator/Rotary Business After Five will be Wednesday, April 16th at the Middle School.

OCAD Trivia Night – March 8th 6:00 Social, 7:00 Trivia. $10 per person/teams of 6-8.

              Must pre-register.

·         Happy Bucks: Mike Kerns – Snowmobile trip to Wisconsin

          Curt Solsma – Freshman boys conference win vs. Waukon

          Steve Sanders – Undefeated UNI wrestling

          Matt Vogel – OHS wrestling

          Ashley Eckenrod – Return from Cabo, Mexico for honeymoon

          Deb Howard – Snowmobile trip to South Dakota

·         Drawing – Joan Loew, not present, will carry over to next week.

·         New member – Dr. Duffy from UIU has mailed off his membership application and will be an Oelwein Rotary member.

·         Next week’s speaker will be Rosalind Young speaking on new Bed & Breakfast she started.

·         Speaker was scheduled for Senator Chuck Grassley, but cancelled due to weather. Members went around the room and told updates about their families and work/business related items.

Business items included:

                Steve Sanders – Edgewater Restaurant is leased out and will be full service restaurant. Hired a new greens keeper for both courses. Pro Shop at Edgewater scaling back and expanding at Hickory. March 22nd is Oelwein’s Alumni BB Game.

                Bob Larimer – Retired 13 years and loving it!

                Kent Nelson – Shared experiences with having Florian at their home.

                Florian – Has enjoyed his time in Oelwein.

                Dr. Leisinger – Dr. Mike is down to two days at Clinic. Dr. Leisinger will attend an upcoming seminar in Philadelphia.

                Ashley Eckenrod – Remodeling extensively at Oelwein Health Care Center.

                Dean Schlitter – Building will begin in Spring on Dean’s Honda’s new 12,000 sq. ft. building. Yamaha dealership will be added to their facility. Adding more staff.

                Matt Vogel – Harden Health has moved out of Matt’s building and he is willing to have incubator style businesses in there for a period of time.

                Brett Ingersoll – Arlington Place is very busy and will be completely full for the first time next week. Adding new therapies.

                Deb Howard- Trivia Night March 8th, Taking donations for Flower Baskets, Easter Basket Hunt April 12th, Daddy Daughter Dance May 3rd. Explained the new “Party in the Park’ Summer Series downtown Oelwein starting in June.

                Jon King – Business as usual at Fidelity Bank.

                Paul Schmitz – No funeral today……. First snow storm they have missed all winter!

                Curt Solsma – Business is growing. He has 3 Full Time employees besides himself and has clients in 35 states.

                Susan Macken – Friends of the Library Chocolate Fest Feb. 28th from 6-8pm. Will add a reading garden in the spring and will once again have the summer reading program.

                Mike Kerns – March 1st Mike will celebrate 18 years at Kerns Co. in Oelwein.
