Discover New Cultures

The Oelwein Rotary Club has hosted two foreign exchange students over the past two years.  Students from Paraguay and Belgium were hosted by local families and immersed in the Oelwein High school experience.  They say the life of a foreign exchange student is changed forever in one year.  Many Oelwein family’s lives were changed as well from knowing these two students.

Do you know what we’re doing in the community?

You may have seen us hosting a sweet corn booth at RAGBRAI or donating to the local food bank.  You may have seen the Rotary bench and new playground equipment at the Little Husky playground.  If you have a third grade child you may realize they received a free dictionary from Rotary.  Perhaps you were in need of a safe way to dispose of outdated medicine; Rotary sponsored a drug box drop off at the Oelwein Police Dept. Maybe you saw Rotarians cleaning Chrysler Park.  You might even have enjoyed the Rotary Golf tournament knowing your donation went to help fund needs in our community.

Do you know what we’re doing around the world?

Rotary members focus our efforts globally in six areas:  promoting peace, preventing diseases, providing access to clean water and sanitation, enhancing maternal and child health, improving basic education and literacy, and helping communities develop.

We are especially dedicated to ending polio in our lifetimes.  Rotary members have persevered in this fight since 1979 and have helped eradicate polio in all but three countries worldwide.

You are invited.

I invite you to attend a meeting of the Oelwein Rotary Club. We meet Mondays at 12:10 p.m.  Details can be found on this website.
