We welcomed student Rotarians, Tyler Vogel , Molly Schmitz, Brooke Fitzpatrick.  

Paul Schmitz was welcomed as a guest and new member today.

Matt Vogel’s name was drawn for the $22.50 jackpot, which he generously donated to Fernando’s graduation party.

Happy bucks: Al Sanderson’s granddaughter was names the Best of Class.  Matt Vogel’s son, Tyler, was named the Des Moines Register’s Best of Class.  Steve Westerberg was happy Oelwein DECA did so well at nationals and his foster-daughter had a baby over the weekend.  Neil Wilkinson earned his master’s degree and was able to get the baby room done.  Steve Sanders survived garage sale weekend. Kent Nelson was able to golf yesterday for the first time this year.  Gene Fuelling was also able to golf. 

 Our speakers today were: Sue Crandall, Oelwein High School teacher and DECA advisor, Tyler Vogel and Paige Wardell, Oelwein students and DECA members.  They spoke about their trip to DECA Nationals.

Fernando Gimenez, our Rotary foreign exchange student, will have his graduation party on May 11th from 11:00 am to 1:00 p.m. at Luigis.  His family from Paraguay will also be in attendance.   A signup sheet for donations of salads, cake and chips was passed around.  Please contact Joan Loew if you are able to help. Items can be dropped off at Luigis prior to the party on Saturday or at the Oelwein Schools Administrative Office on Friday. Thanks for your generosity.  This will be the only chance to meet his family since they will not be in town for our Rotary meeting on Monday following graduation.

OCAD and Positively Oelwein will host a Daddy-Daughter dance this weekend. Contact OCAD to register. There will be games and prizes and dancing!

Hickory Grove will host a two person Ryder-cup this weekend.

OCAD will hold its annual golf tournament on June 14th . You can choose 9 or 18 holes.  Hole sponsorships are also available. Also, mark your calendars for the Rotary Annual Golf Tournament on Saturday, August 17th.

If anyone has information on the gentleman who spoke regarding the Civil War at a Rotary meeting.  Please contact Susan Macken, she is interested in having him present at the library.

Curt Solsma passed around a signup sheet to volunteer to clean up Chrysler Park on May 6th at 5:00 p.m.
