Rotary Minutes – 7/28/14

 

Joan Loew called the meeting to order. There were no guests.

Bruce Bearinger was inducted as a new member. His sponsor is Bob Larimer.

The club received a thank you from the RAGBRAI Committee and the $50 cleaning deposit refund. A report on the booth at RAGBRAI shows approx.. $500 - $600 profit. The group enjoyed the day and met Rotary members from many other places. Supplies left from RAGBRAI and for sale are Water $3/case, Gatorade $5/case and sweet corn $4/doz.

Aug. 16th – United Way Softball Tournament and Street Dance

Aug. 23rd – Rotary Golf Tournament – Hole Sponsors - $150, Teams $200 (includes cart and dinner)

                                Deadline for team registration is Aug. 18th

The Oelwein Public Library is hosting a Fantasy Football League. Call the Library for more details.

Drawing: There was no carry over and pot was for $7.50. #11 was drawn – Todd Granberg. Not present to win, will carry over to next week. (Jamie Letzring has #1 and thought she should win as her number is half of the one drawn!!!) A donation was made on behalf of Jamie Letzring who actually thinks 1 is half of 11!!! Song choice was #11 – All Hail to Rotary! (Seeing a pattern with #11????)

 

Speaker was Wally Rundle, Oelwein Fire Chief. He spoke on new and updated equipment such as smoke detectors, Carbon monoxide detectors, weather radios and odor detectors. He also spoke on communication equipment used by the department including radios, also on Thermal Imagers, Fire gear, uniforms, helmets and boots. Fundraisers such as their spaghetti suppers and omelets breakfasts are used to keep all the equipment and gear up to date and available for all firemen.

 

Next meeting will be Aug. 4th . Speaker will be Bruce Bearinger. Aug. 11th will be Tyler Vogel and Aug. 18th will be Carla Organist.
